Postbus is not only a pioneer in alternative drive systems, together with the transport associations, Austria's largest bus company is doing everything it can to make bus travel even more environmentally friendly. Today, the exciting world of electromobility is made audible.
For two years now, our e-buses in the southern Weinviertel region have been proving that they are not just made for urban transport. In summer 2022, eleven e-buses went into operation on behalf of Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region (VOR) on routes 530 and 535 in the Gänserndorf, Mistelbach and Wolkersdorf region. This is the first regional bus system in Lower Austria to be operated with e-buses and was realised together with VOR and EVN. The buses, which were actually built and designed for urban transport, clearly show that e-mobility is not just an issue for cities. Both local residents and Postbus drivers are delighted with the emission-free buses and passengers are delighted with the dense regional bus service in the region. VOR and Postbus hope that many more electrically powered buses will soon be travelling Austria's roads.
Electromobility becomes audible
Although the buses travel almost silently through the idyllic landscape of the Weinviertel region, electric mobility is made audible. The Federal Association for Electromobility (BEÖ) took the two-year anniversary of the e-buses in the southern Weinviertel region as an opportunity to take a closer look at the pioneering project and invited the project partners to take part in a talk on its regular podcast "elektromobil".
The successful project now transports around 1,600 passengers a year, saves the environment almost 920 tonnes of CO2 and, thanks to the supply of green electricity, provides 100% green power coverage. The BEÖ podcast is all about the world of e-mobility. For the recording of the current episode, BEÖ travelled to Gänserndorf with a recording studio to the e-bus charging station and spoke to Postbus CEO Alfred Loidl as well as EVN and VOR representatives about the experiences of switching from diesel buses to emission-free e-buses, including the charging infrastructure. We invite you to listen to the podcast (german only)!
